When a horse is listed as "Also Eligible" she/he will appear at the bottom of the program under a shaded "AE" box. This means that more than the allowed number of horses were entered into a given race; therefore the "AE" horses are on stand-by. If a horse from the regular card scratches, an "AE" horse can take its place in the race. The most common place to see this happen is in a turf race. If, due to track conditions, the race is switched to the dirt, many horses may scratch, and the "AE" list will be used.
